Ours was of humble beginnings: a night out, a need to find someone.
An old friend was in town; one I hadn’t seen in quite a while. She had recently moved out of state and, as many people do, got a new cell phone number. One I didn’t have. So, hoping to see her, I called every mutual friend of ours. Some didn’t answer my call, and like me, others didn’t have her new number. I was out of luck. I asked myself, and those who would listen, how, in this day and age, can we not get a hold of our own friends?
The thought stayed with me, until I found an answer. We could create a social directory, one that put the control in the hands of the number’s owner. If people wanted to share their numbers, let them, if they would rather not, well that’s ok too. What’s more, we discovered inadvertently that we would be creating a free backup utility. And while we were at it, we could make a free text‐messaging tool. Oh, and let’s give users the ability to sort their contacts into groups so they could send mass texts and updates. The ideas are still flowing and fermenting today. And you’ll notice as time goes, that we’ll be updating the site to reflect these ideas, hoping always to make your experience simple, useful, and maybe just a little fun.
I want to be clear that we understand people think of their numbers as sacred, and we’re not here to disrupt that. Our only aim is to ease the flow of communication, and allow our users to stay in touch with one another more efficiently, and give them something I could have used all those nights ago.
Today, BlackBook Mobile is proud to be the first product launched by its parent company, Fonroots Inc. We hope you enjoy.
Oh, and for those of you who enjoy happy endings, I’ll finish my story: she married someone else, and I was left with this little company. So it might be said that we’re both living happily ever after.
